Classified loans down 3.45pc, profits up 2.52pc

Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) recorded a notable turnaround in the 2024-25 fiscal year as its classified loans declined to a historic low of 3.45 per cent, while profits rose by 2.52 per cent.

This reflected improved operational efficiency and prudent financial management.

The classified loans were 3.96 per cent of the corporation's total loans in FY24.

BHBFC Managing Director Md Abdul Mannan revealed the information at the Managers Conference 2026 held in Mukti Hall of Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.

Nazma Mobarek, secretary of the Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance, was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the conference. 

Chairman of the BHBFC Board of Directors and former cabinet secretary ASM Abdul Halim, all directors of the board, and senior executives of the FID were also present.

The corporation's Deputy Managing Director Md Noor Alam Sardar and the general managers were present and conducted various important sessions.

This conference is organised every year with the participation of the office heads of all field-level offices of BHBFC.

This year, managers from a total of 91 field offices participated.

At the beginning of the inaugural ceremony, the managing director welcomed everyone.

He discussed setting the targets for the fiscal year's achievements right at the beginning of FY26 and the roadmap for achieving them.

Mannan highlighted the information on various programmes undertaken by the corporation in the field of digitalisation.

He expressed his gratitude and thanks to the FID secretary, the chairman of the BHBFC Board of Directors, and all concerned for their cooperation in the overall success and progress.

The FID secretary initiated a discussion on the scope of BHBFC's work as the only government agency providing loans in the housing sector and called for establishing it as a role model in its field.

In this regard, she urged each official to transform themselves into assets for the corporation and the country by combining honesty, skill, and determination.

She reiterated the call to make BHBFC's services easier and time-saving, as well as to take those to the doorsteps of the people at all levels and meet their needs.

Halim praised the competence of the senior executives, including the managing director, and called upon them to take BHBFC to unique heights under their leadership, wishing for the overall success of the conference.

In the working sessions of the day-long conference, detailed discussions were held on the performance of all zonal and branch offices of BHBFC in the previous year and the implementation of plans adopted for the current fiscal year.
