The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has banned all kinds of processions, meetings, human chains, and similar programmes in the Chattogram port area for 30 days.

As a result, nobody can arrange such events there for the next one month, starting today.

The information was revealed in a public notice issued by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz on Thursday.

According to the notice published on the official Facebook page of CMP, the decision was made to keep imports and exports at the port smooth and uninterrupted.

The ban - imposed under the powers conferred under Section 30 of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1978 - will apply to the Barek building and Nimtala intersections, Number 3 jetty gate, Customs intersection, and Saltgola crossing.

Processions, meetings, and human chains organised in the port area cause traffic jams, disrupting import and export operations, which is seriously detrimental to the national economy, the notice says.

It says the Chattogram port is the heart of the economy, handling the majority of the country's total imports and exports.

Around 5,000-6,000 vehicles run in the port area every day to transport daily essentials, industrial raw materials, and imported and export goods.

Due to the movement of such a large number of vehicles, it is very important to keep the flow of traffic normal there, according to the notice.
