The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) will mark the completion of its 138 years on Friday.
The CPA held a view exchange meeting with senior journalists at Shahid Fazlur Rahman Munshi hall in the port city on Thursday .
Addressing the meeting, CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Monriuzzaman said, "Bay Terminal will be the future port, which will also be a game changer for Bangladesh."
Mentioning that the terminal is the most important addition of Chittagong port, he emphasised the need to complete construction of the terminal as soon as possible as it will be beneficial for Bangladesh.
"We have already acquired 500 acres of land for the Bay Terminal. The terminals of Chittagong port will be handled by the international operators selected through open tender," he added.
The CPA chief said security at the port was the biggest challenge and that they arranged a visit of the United States Coast Guard, which scrutinised the port's and related establishment's compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code.
"The team visited Chittagong port on January 21-22. This time they are satisfied over the Chittagong port's activities," he added.
CPA Members Md Habibur Rahman, Comodore Kaosar Rashid, Ataur Rahim, Amin Abdullah and Secretary Omar Faruk were present at the meeting.
