Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Taskeen Ahmed and members of the Board of Directors have expressed their deep condolences at the death of Syed Manzur Elahi and extended their profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Syed Manzur Elahi, 83, one of the pioneers of the country's leather and modern footwear industry, former adviser to the Caretaker Government, prominent industrialist, and Chairman of Apex Group, breathed his last at a hospital in Singapore on Wednesday.
He was a pioneer in exporting Bangladesh's footwear and leather products to different countries, through which the market for our leather products in the global market expanded with a good reputation and positive branding. This later played an immense role in the development and export of our local industry as well.
He had been working relentlessly to improve the business-friendly environment and create employment opportunities in the country. The business institutions he established also played an important role in the development of the country's overall economy.
DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed said, "The death of noted entrepreneur Syed Manzur Elahi is indeed considered an irreparable loss to the overall business community."
"The business community of Bangladesh will always remember his great contribution to the business sector, economy, and socio-economic development of the country," he added.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Zuhr prayers on Thursday. Later, he will be buried at the city's Banani graveyard.
