The two-day 'Bangladesh Denim Expo' concluded in the city, drawing positive response from the participants, buyers and brands.

With the theme 'Simplicity' and focusing on 'simplicity' in the supply chain, the ninth edition of the expo was held at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital, aimed at showcasing Bangladeshi denim brands to the global market and to make Bangladesh a 'one-stop sourcing platform' for denim.

Different seminars and panel discussions were organised on the sidelines where the speakers laid emphasis on the most recent developments in eco-friendly and sustainable finishing technologies, and energy-efficient ways of operations.

A total of 62 exhibitors from across the globe including Germany, USA, Turkey, Italy, Singapore, Spain, Pakistan, Japan, San Marino, China, and India took part in the event to attract the visitors, especially from the international arena, the organisers said.

Zakir Hossain, a merchandiser, told the FE that he visited the expo to get the hands-on experience about different denim products. It was a great opportunity for me to have a look at the diversified products under one roof, he said.

Mohammad Rashedul Haq, executive (marketing) of Ha-Meem Group, said that he was getting more responses from the visitors than that of last year. The buyers were specially looking for the eco-friendly and sustainable products, he added.

The founder and CEO of the expo Mostafiz Uddin said around 20,000 visitors came to the expo on the first day of the two-day event. The number of visitors will also exceed on the last day of the show, he said.

The underlying concept of the expo is to fulfil the needs of the international denim community, offering the opportunity to make new contacts with potential buyers, discovering new products and gain a comprehensive overview of the latest developments available from the industry, he said.

In the world market of denim, simplicity is now the ultimate sophistication. So in this edition, the expo will try to give a much simpler message about sustainability and ecology in denim, Mostafiz said.

"Trend zone is always a distinctive trait of the show. The expanded trend zone in this edition gave visitors an insight into the latest trends and highlighted all the key trends in fabric, finishing and styling," the CEO said.

"It also offered a comprehensive overview of the scope of the products available in Bangladesh and key highlights of trends for the forthcoming season," he said.

The expo also highlighted the progress that has been made in Bangladesh regarding safe working conditions and sustainability practices of the readymade garment industry of the country.

During the two-day event, three panel discussions on 'Simplicity from designers to consumers - the collaboration', 'Simplicity and standardisation in the apparel industry', and 'Simplicity in production - innovation, technology and optimised handling of resources' were held on the sidelines.
