Deposits in Islamic banks crossed Tk 2.20 trillion in FY18

Total deposits in the country’s Islamic banking industry crossed Tk 2.20 trillion in the past fiscal year (FY18).

The amount reached Tk 2.24 trillion at the end of June, 2018, according to the latest statistics unveiled by Bangladesh Bank.

With this, deposits in the full-fledged Islamic banks, Islamic banking branches of the conventional banks and Islamic banking windows of the other banks increased by 12.70 per cent over the same period of 2017.

The share of the deposits in the Islamic banks accounted for 23.21 per cent of the market at the end of FY18, while the ratio was 22.72 per cent at the end of FY17.

Total deposits in the country’s banking sector stood at Tk 9.68 trillion in the past fiscal year.
