DSE turnover hits 10-week high

Stocks finished flat in the green on Tuesday with the turnover on the major bourse hitting 10 weeks high.

Following the previous day’s marginal correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened on a positive note.

DSEX, prime index of the DSE rose about 30 points in the mid-session, but late hours selling pressure wiped out most of the gains.

Finally, the DSEX went up by 3.66 points, or 0.06 per cent, to settle at 5,345 points.

Two other indexes also edged higher.

Of those, DS30 index, comprising blue chips, saw a fractional gain of 0.61 point to finish at 1942 and DSE Shariah index advanced 1.42 points to close at 1,240 points.

Overall trading activities increased sharply with the turnover on the DSE reaching Tk 6.35 billion, up by 31 per cent from the previous session’s Tk 4.85 billion.

Of the traded issues, 145 closed higher, 144 closed lower and 51 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Alif Industries topped the DSE turnover chart for the second straight session with shares worth Tk 309 million changing hands, closely followed by Khulna Power Company, Pharma Aids, United Power and Monno Ceramic Industries.

The CSE also closed marginally higher with its CSE All Share Price Index, CAPSI, gaining 28 points to settle at 16,481 and Selective Categories Index, CSCX, advancing 18 points to finish at 9,967 points.

The gainers beat the losers as 111 issues closed higher, 85 ended lower and 19 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 4.42 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 161 million in turnover.
