EBL, icddr,b partner for sutainable healthcare waste management

To establish a state-of-the-art solid biohazardous waste treatment facility, Eastern Bank (EBL) and icddr,b signed a memorandum of understanding at EBL's head office in the capital on Wednesday, according to a statement.

Ziaul Karim, head of Communications and External Affairs at EBL, and Dr Shams El Arifeen, acting executive director and senior director, Maternal and Child Health Division at icddr,b, signed the agreement

The waste treatment facility of icddr,b will be equipped with advanced waste sterilizers and shredders, allowing for the complete decontamination and destruction of biohazardous polymer products.

According to the press release, the partnership extends beyond the construction of the facility, as EBL and icddr,b will collaborate on developing and updating policies and standard operating procedures for sustainable waste management within healthcare institutions.

Ali Reza Iftekhar, managing director and CEO; Ahmed Shaheen, additional managing director and Ziaul Karim, head of Communications and External Affairs from EBL; Dr Shams El Arifeen, acting executive director and senior director, Maternal & Child Health Division; Dr Asadulghani, head, Biosafety, Biorepository and Containment Lab; Dr Md. Fazlul Kabir, head, Clinical and Diagnostic Services and Armana Ahmed, head, Development from icddr,b and other senior officials from both organisations were also present.
