EBL partners with SS Foundation to support healthcare of underprivileged children

Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) partnered with the Shishu Sasthya Foundation, Bangladesh (SSF, B) to support its initiative to strengthen services for pediatric inpatients from underprivileged and marginalised families.

Ahmed Shaheen, additional managing director of EBL, handed over a cheque of BDT 6.1 million to Engineer Reza Karim, Secretary General, Shishu Sasthya Foundation, Bangladesh at a ceremony held at EBL's head office in Dhaka on Tuesday, according to a press release.

Dr A K M Shamsuzzaman, joint secretary general; Professor Dr Shah Mahfuzur Rahman, member, executive board and Mohammad Jannat, deputy director of the Shishu Sasthya Foundation, Bangladesh, Md Abdullah Al Mamun FCS, Company Secretary, Md Maskur Reza FCA, head of business information systems, Md Shahjahan Ali, head of compliance and Md Safiqul Islam Zahid, head of financial operations and control, EBL, among others, were present at the MoU signing ceremony.

The money will be spent on upgrading pediatric inpatient services, including the renovation of two wards, installation of modern medical equipment, enhanced nursing stations, and oxygen systems. With these improvements, the hospital will be equipped to serve approximately 2,400 children annually, providing critical medical care to those in need.

Ahmed Shaheen said, “Healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. At EBL, we are committed to giving back to the community by supporting initiatives that create meaningful impact. This partnership with the Shishu Sasthya Foundation, Bangladesh is an attempt to ensure that no child is left without the care they deserve due to financial constraints. Together, we can pave the way for a healthier and brighter future for the children.”

Engr Reza Karim thanked the EBL authority for this support for the underprivileged children. Quoting late National Professor Dr M R Khan, the founder of the SSF, B, he said, “no child should be unserved, left out or left behind in this hospital irrespective of she or he comes from.”
