Eight business entities have been honoured with the 'Third HSBC Business Excellence Awards' introduced by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in Bangladesh.
The award recipients are Ha-Meem Group in readymade garments (RMG); Pahartali Textile & Hosiery Mills in supply chain and backward linkage; Renata Limited in non-traditional and emerging sectors; City Group in import substitution; Gildan leader in inbound investment and infrastructure; Syngenta Bangladesh Limited in sustainability; bKash in innovation & technology and Square Group in special achievement.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi handed over the awards to the business entities at a ceremony organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and the British High Commission in the city on Saturday night.
The business firms from different sectors received accolades for their unmatched leadership and outstanding contribution to promoting Bangladesh and enabling sustainable growth in the national economy even during these challenging times.
The minister was also joined by Guest of Honour Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Md Mahbub ur Rahman, chief executive officer, HSBC Bangladesh, and Gerard Kevin Haughey, country head of Wholesale Banking, HSBC Bangladesh.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Tipu Munshi said Bangladesh stays committed to enhancing the ease of doing business and fostering a business-friendly environment.
The country aims to elevate trade and investment opportunities to new heights, he stated.
Mr Tipu Munshi said, "Bangladeshi businesses have shown remarkable resilience in the face of domestic and international challenges, supported by government initiatives aimed at fostering industry and commerce".
"The HSBC Business Excellence Awards perfectly align with our commitment to honouring successful businesses and entrepreneurs whose substantial contributions have propelled our nation's journey of growth," he added.
Sarah Cooke said, "A vibrant and resilient private sector drives Bangladesh's economic development".
"I am pleased that the British High Commission Dhaka is joining HSBC to honour the best of these enterprises through the Business Excellence Award (BEA), celebrating the innovation and ideas which strengthen economic growth, create jobs, and attract more foreign investment," she added.
Mahbub ur Rahman congratulated the winners and said, "Bangladesh business groups are transforming and reaching new heights with their resilience and excellence in the respective fields".
Names of award recipients are Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam(retd), chief external and corporate affairs officer, bKash Limited; Ananta Saha, head of the international business division, Renata Limited; Shampa Rahman, director, City Group; Edgar Arturo Oviedo, director supply chain, Gildan; Md Hedayetullah, managing director, Syngenta Bangladesh Limited; Mirza Salman Ispahani, chairman, Ispahani Group ((Pahartali Textile & Hosiery Mills); Abdul Kader Azad, managing director, Ha-Meem Group and Tapan Chowdhury, managing director, Square Group.
