Exim Bank's acting MD resigns

M Akhtar Hossain, acting managing director of Exim Bank, has recently resigned from his post at the Shariah-based lender amid ongoing discussions regarding the merger of five Islamic banks.

Mr Hossain, a seasoned banker, joined Exim Bank as additional managing director in January this year, following his departure from Shahjalal Islami Bank.

Shortly after joining, he was appointed as the acting managing director of the bank.

According to a bank official who spoke on condition of anonymity, Mr Hossain submitted his resignation shortly after the bank's most recent board meeting.

In the wake of his resignation, Abdul Aziz, another additional managing director of the bank, has been appointed as the new acting managing director.
