Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has urged protesting National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials to withdraw their movement and return to work.
Following a two-and-a-half-hour meeting on Thursday evening at the finance ministry, both the adviser and NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan expressed optimism about resolving the issue soon, according to local media.
The protest began after the government issued the Revenue Policy and Administration Ordinance 2025, which separated policy formulation from tax collection. In response, NBR officials have demanded the ordinance be revoked.
Speaking to the media, the finance adviser said most senior commissioners attended the meeting and expressed responsibility. He called for further discussions next week to reach a final solution.
The NBR chairman noted that misunderstandings behind the protest are being addressed and hoped for a solution by tonight. He assured that revenue collection has not been disrupted despite the ongoing movement.
