First-ever kids channel launched in country

The first ever children based television channel of Bangladesh ‘Duronto’ has started its journey recently.

The child and family based private channel unveiled their logo at a press conference at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in city on Thursday.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu was present at the logo unveiling ceremony as the chief guest.

He said children are the future of the country. They should grow up with knowing about history and culture of Bangladesh.

Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Tarana Halim, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, and eminent writer & media personality Faridur Reza Sagor, were also present there as special guests.

Asaduzzaman Noor asked every guardian to give more time to their children. He said the parents should try to help reading books and making the lesson interesting by fun.  

M Shahriar Alam, also a member of Renaissance Group, the owning company of the channel, said, “The time has come to fulfil the need of child-friendly entertainment. The channel will broadcast child-friendly shows made in Bangla on various topics of the culture of the Bangladesh.”

“The channel is making all programmes in ‘Edu-Entertainment’ method which will entertain the children and also give education,” he said.   

Muhammad Sayeed, the Managing Director of Duronto TV said, “‘Duronto’ has started its journey to develop our children by entertaining them with our native history, tradition and culture.”

For the inadequate elements of entertainment for the children, they are getting more interested in foreign culture and inappropriate content, the MD said.

The channel will also broadcast travel shows, magic shows, science shows, sports shows, family shows, origami shows, puppet shows etc. as well as children-friendly foreign contents, including cartoon and movies professionally dubbed in Bangla, the officials said.

The channel has started limited broadcasting and will start regular broadcasting very soon, they said.
