Four-day heritage handloom festival begins Wednesday

A four-day ‘Heritage Handloom Festival-2019’ will kick off on Wednesday in the city aimed at promoting local handloom products and protecting the extinction of traditional items.

SME Foundation and Association of Fashion Designers of Bangladesh (AFDB) with the support of Ministry of Cultural Affairs are jointly organising the festival for the second time at the hall room of Khazana Gardenia in the city’s Gulshan 2 area.

Planning Minister MA Mannan is expected to inaugurate the festival as the chief guest on the day.

The announcement came at a press conference at a city hotel on Monday, jointly organised by SME Foundation and the AFDB.

Managing Director of SME Foundation Md Shafiqul Islam and AFDB President Mantasha Ahmed, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

Some 45 entrepreneurs and designers in 45 stalls will showcase traditional and heritage products which will be brought from different regions of the country.

The products of 15 sectors are jute products, Jamdani, Khadi, Sirajganj Handloom, Rajshahi Silk,Cane and Bamboo, folkart,  Nakshi Kantha, Mirpur benarasi, Tangail Taant, Sirajgonj Taant (Lungi, Gamcha, Sarees), Rangamati Handloom and Monipuri Handloom.

The exhibition will remain open for all from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the inaugural day and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on October 24, 25 and 26.

The fair will end on Saturday (October 26).
