The government has appointed an administrator at the Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA) after dissolving its board of directors for their failure to comply with necessary rules and regulations.
In an official order issued on June 3, Deputy Secretary Nasrin Sultana of the Ministry of Commerce has been assigned to serve as the administrator. She will hold a fair and impartial election to the association within the next 120 days.
According to the order, the BAFFA board failed to present its audited accounts to its general members and disbursed fund worth Tk 10 million in the guise of Covid-19 incentive without prior approval from the general members.
It also said the trade body could not serve the interests of the country's trade, industry and service sectors in accordance with the existing law due to a lack of coordination among board members.
The new administrator has been tasked with conducting a fair and non-partisan election to BAFFA within 120 days. She has been asked to inform the ministry following the handover of the responsibility to the new elected committee.
The BAFFA is a platform of 1,189 members and its board is comprised of 19 directors, according to the association's website.
