A four-day Gastech 2023 conference kicks off in Singapore on Tuesday, where the global energy community is set to deliver real progress towards energy affordability, security and stability worldwide.
Global leaders and policymakers are expected to discuss the topics at a critical juncture for the industry, prompted by price disruptions stemming from concerns about refinery strikes in Australia.
The conference will focus on the roles of natural gas, LNG and hydrogen in enabling a more secure energy future, said the organisers.
The conference will offer insights from senior officials spanning key geographies on both sides of the North-South divide, including Asia, the US, Europe and Africa, during two ministerial sessions, they said.
High-level officials contributing to the critical dialogue include: Dr Tan See Leng, minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Singapore, Tarek El Molla, minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Egypt, Amani Abou-Zeid, commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, African Union, Joseph McMonigle, secretary general, International Energy Forum (IEF), George Papanastasiou, minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Cyprus, Bapak Tutuka Ariadji, deputy minister, Director General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of Indonesia, Willie L. Phillips, chairman, US Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC), Heineken Lokpobiri, minister of State Oil, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria, Ekperikpe Ekpo, minister of State Gas, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria, Boris Johnson, former prime minister of the United Kingdom, leader of the Conservative Party, foreign secretary, and mayor of London.
In addition, influential voices from Europe and the US will contribute to the discussions, as countries intensify efforts to stockpile sufficient reserves of natural gas in preparation for the upcoming winter.
The EU has already achieved its goal of filling gas storage facilities to 90 per cent of capacity, surpassing the November 1 deadline.
Former UK prime minister Boris Johnson will deliver remarks at an opening gala dinner and participate in a fireside chat. Willie L. Phillips, chairman of the US Federal Energy Regulation Commission, will share the stage with ministers to lay the groundwork for an inclusive energy transition.
Gastech 2023 will offer a vital platform for ministers and policymakers from a wide array of energy markets to align with the global net-zero agenda and address the specific obstacles and challenges in this evolving energy landscape.
Officials in attendance will be joined by over 4,000 delegates, including business leaders, chief executive officers (CEOs), and innovators representing the entire energy value chain.
Willie L. Phillips, chairman of the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, said, "Gastech 2023 is a premier global event for discussing investments in energy infrastructure. I look forward to meeting with colleagues from around the world for conversations about how we can break down barriers to these critical investments, all while maintaining our focus on reliability, affordability and sustainability."
The Gastech 2023 technical and commercial conference is expected to deliver a world-class programme in hydrogen, climate tech, EPC and gas processing, shipping and marine, and commercial, thoughtfully selected by the 60-plus members of the Gastech Governing Body.
With 150 speakers across 50 sessions, the technical conference will showcase the latest and most innovative ideas on global energy supply, capacity constraints, emissions reduction, emerging marine technologies and health and safety best practices.
By presenting world-leading, peer-reviewed research and cutting-edge technologies, the conference aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and implementation in natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, low-carbon solutions and climate technologies.
