The government on Tuesday approved separate proposals for procuring 1,30,000 metric tons (MTs) of fertiliser to meet the growing demand of the country.
The approval came during the 16th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) this year, held at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat, with Adviser to the interim government on the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, he said that following a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-Nutrient Company, Saudi Arabia, under the 12th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) at around Tk 1.23 billion, with each tonne of fertiliser costing US$342.33.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 30,000 MTs of MPO fertiliser under a state-level agreement from JSC Foreign Economic Corporation "Prodintorg," Russia, under the fifth lot for the fiscal year (FY25) at around Tk 1.04 billion, with each tonne of fertiliser costing $289.75.
In another proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the BADC would procure 40,000 MTs of DAP fertiliser from OCP Nutricrops, Morocco, under the ninth lot for the fiscal year (FY25) at around Tk 2.81 billion, with each tonne of fertiliser costing $584.75.
Additionally, the BADC would procure 30,000 MTs of TSP fertiliser from OCP Nutricrops, Morocco, under the 11th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) at around Tk 1.52 billion, with each tonne of fertiliser priced at $423.50.
