The government will purchase 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser through a state contract in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The proposal was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Tuesday, confirmed Md Mahmudul Hossain Khan, Cabinet Division secretary of the coordination and reform wing.
“The Ministry of Industries tabled a proposal to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from the United Arab Emirates and it was approved. The cost will be Tk 957 million,” Mahmudul said.
“The price stands at $271.50 per tonne, down from the previous $284.17. The rate was recommended by bidder Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the UAE. Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will implement the proposal.”
The government will also purchase 11 million litres of soybean oil locally through an open tender process.
The CCGP has approved a proposal by the commerce ministry on this.
“The government will purchase 11 million litres of soybean oil under the programme to support 10 million families. The cost will be Tk 152.45 per litre, down from Tk 152.98 per litre. The total cost for the soybean oil will be Tk 1.82 billion,” the secretary said.
He said the recommended bidder was Super Oil Refinery Limited and it would be purchased locally. The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh or TCB will implement the project.
