Government withdraws all import duties on rice

The government has removed all import duties on rice in an effort to stabilise prices and increase stock levels.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a notification in this regard on Thursday (October 31).

The decision follows a recommendation made on 29 October by the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission to withdraw existing duties on rice imports. This move aims to counterbalance supply shortages and control prices in the domestic market, as recent floods have disrupted local rice production, local media reports.
