The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has appointed administrators to oversee operations at two trade associations, citing governance issues and non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
The two associations are Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners Association (CFSCWOA) and Bangladesh Acid Merchant Association (BAMA).
Muhammad Rehan Uddin, acting director general of the Trade Organisation Division under the MoC, issued two separate office orders in this regard.
According to the orders, joint secretary Shayla Yasmin has been appointed as the administrator of the CFSCWOA and deputy secretary Md Abdul Malek as the administrator of the BAMA.
In the case of the CFSCWOA, the ministry noted that although it is a licensed and registered trade body under the MoC, its current committee failed to properly respond to a show-cause notice.
The notice sought an explanation as to why the organisation should not be declared inactive after an investigating officer reported errors in the voter list and disruptions in the association's normal activities.
Given that the association's activities were not being properly managed, the ministry, with government approval and under Section 17 of the Trade Organisation Act 2022, cancelled the current board and appointed Shayla Yasmin as its administrator.
She has been directed to hold a fair and neutral election within 120 days, hand over responsibilities to the elected committee, and inform the ministry once completed.
Similarly, for the Bangladesh Acid Merchant Association, the ministry noted that the current committee conducted elections in violation of a verdict issued by the FBCCI Arbitration Tribunal issued in a case on February 9.
It was also found that the committee failed to follow the organisation's constitution and ignored the FBCCI's directive to conduct elections properly.
