The government on Wednesday approved proposals for buying three LNG (liquefied natural gas) cargoes at more than double the rate compared to that in three months back, amid ongoing war in the Middle East.
Of them, one of the cargoes will come from the United Kingdom and two others from South Korea, as approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, held on a virtual platform.
The LNG will be bought from the spot market through the international quotation method. Of the total procurement, one cargo is expected to arrive in the country by April 5-6, another by April 9-10 and the remaining on April 12-13 next.
According to the proposals, one LNG cargo will be supplied by Total Energies Gas and Power Limited of the United Kingdom at a total price of Tk 9.07 billion where each MMBTU of gas will cost US$21.58.
From the same source, Bangladesh bought one LNG cargo on December 9 last year, only three months back, at a cost of Tk 4.36 billion where each MMBTU of LNG priced at $10.37.
