The government on Tuesday approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo LNG and some 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati boiled rice to meet the growing demand of the country.
The approval came from the 2nd meeting of the Advisers’ Council Committee on Government Purchase in this year held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market through international quotation from M/S Excelerate Energy, LP, United States, at around Tk 7.525 billion with per MMBtu LNG costing $15.69.
In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government would purchase 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Bagadiya Brothers Private Ltd.
India with around Tk 27.53 billion where per tonne rice would cost $458.84.
The day’s purchase committee meeting also approved one proposal each from the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Ministry of Shipping.
