The government on Tuesday approved separate proposals for procuring 1,20,000 tonnes (MTs) of fertiliser and 30,000 MTs of phosphoric acid to meet the country’s growing demand.
The approvals came from the fourth meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city.
Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrient Company, Saudi Arabia under the 15th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Tk 1.32 billion (Tk 132.06 crore) with per tonne fertiliser costing US$360.83.
Following another proposal from the ministry, the BCIC would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the second lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Tk 1.32 billion (Tk 132.06 crore) with per tonne fertiliser costing $360.83.
In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the BCIC would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Qatar Energy Marketing, Qatar under the ninth lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Tk 1.38 billion (Tk 138.65 crore) with per tonne fertiliser costing $378.83.
Besides, BCIC would procure another 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited (KAFCO) with around Tk 1.29 billion (Tk 129.47 crore) where per tonne fertiliser would cost $353.75.
The BCIC would procure 10,000 MTs of phosphoric acid for TSPCL with around Tk 753.7 million (Tk 75.37 crore) from M/S Zentrade FZE UAE (Manufacturer: M/S OCP SA Morocco).
The BCIC would also procure 20,000 MTs of phosphoric acid for DAPFCL with around Tk 1.49 billion (Tk 149 crore) from M/S Sun International FZE UAE (Manufacturer: M/S Guiangxi Pengyue Eco-technology Co. Ltd, South Africa).
