Grameenphone, one of the leading telecommunications providers in Bangladesh, has been honoured with the Asian Technology Awards 2024 in the Digital - Telecommunications category for its MyGP app. This award recognises the app’s significant impact on enhancing the digital experience across Bangladesh by making essential services easily accessible, according to a media statement Wednesday.
The Asian Technology Awards, hosted by Asian Business Review, celebrate technological innovations across various industries in Asia. They commend companies that drive technological disruption and digital transformation within their sectors.
The MyGP app, with over 30 million installations, has transformed how users interact with Grameenphone's services. It offers a wide range of features including account management, service customisation, and real-time notifications. The app facilitates one-tap payments and provides emergency balance services in collaboration with mobile financial partners, all without requiring a data balance. It has digitised 99 per cent of Grameenphone’s services, becoming the largest local self-service app.
Grameenphone's vision for MyGP is to be a comprehensive solution, continuously enhanced to meet evolving customer needs. During the pandemic, the app supported live streaming of classes, ensuring uninterrupted education for students. It has also become a key platform for entertainment, providing live score updates and streaming major sporting events, such as the Cricket World Cup, through partnerships with over ten OTT platforms.
With a cloud-native architecture, MyGP can handle up to 8,000 transactions per second and serves over 20 million monthly active users. The latest update, MyGP 5.0, offers a more intuitive user experience based on extensive customer feedback, significantly boosting engagement.
