Gree Global plans to invest $5 billion in Bangladesh in the next two to three years, according to Kevin Bai, assistant president of the leading multinational electronics and appliance company.
The announcement reflects Gree's ambitious growth strategy and commitment to expanding its footprint across key markets.
Addressing a press conference at a city hotel on Saturday, Mr Bai highlighted that Gree Global has already made a significant presence in Bangladesh with a Tk 2.0-billion investment in the country.
This underscores Bangladesh's importance as a strategic market for the company, according to him. The planned investment aligns with Gree Global's vision of innovation and sustainable business growth.
The company aims to enhance its market share through cutting-edge technology and a robust supply chain while strengthening its position in existing and emerging markets.
Electro Mart Ltd deputy managing director Md Nurul Islam, among others, was also present at the briefing.
Regarding Gree's journey and position in the global market, Mr Bai said, "At the beginning of its establishment, the company mainly relied on the assembly and production of household air conditioners."
"Now, it has developed into a diversified and technology-based global industrial group, covering the two major fields of household consumer goods and industrial equipment."
"Its products have been exported and served to more than 160 countries and regions. The company has more than 90,000 employees, including 15,000 R&D personnel and more than 30,000 technical workers. It has 14 production bases at home and abroad," said Mr Bai.
Gree started its business operation in Bangladesh's electronics market by making partnership with Electro Mart in 1999.
It has gradually expanded business with the partner and established a production base in Narayanganj by sharing Gree's innovative technology.
Gree addressed environmental issues by promoting green energy, recycling, conservation of water and electricity, and also avoiding single-use plastic, according to Mr Bai.
"Gree uses environment-friendly R32 gas and reduces carbon emission at zero level. It uses sophisticated technology to conserve natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of renewable energy."
