Indonesia sees Bangladesh as strategic partner for economy, trade

Trade Mission to Bangladesh, in partnership with Indonesia will contribute to the people’s welfare and boost economic, investment and trade benefits of both countries.

Deputy Trade Minister of Indonesia Ms Arlinda came up with the remarks at a business forum titled 'Indonesia Fair-2018'.

Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka organised the three-day fair which began on Thursday at Le Meridien hotel in the capital.

The Ministry of Trade of Indonesia organised Trade Mission to Bangladesh on April 25 – 28.

The series of activities in the trade mission consists of organising business forum, business matching, and supporting the Indonesia Fair 2018.

She said the Bangladesh Trade Mission is a follow-up of President Joko Widodo's visit in January 2018 where he showed his interest to boost bilateral economic cooperation and trade to the Prime Minister Sherikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid.  

Bangladesh and Indonesia have some similarities such as both countries have a Muslim majority population, said Arlinda.

"The same point of view and the economic growth of Bangladesh in the South Asia region which is quite impressive have made Bangladesh a strategic partner for Indonesia," added she.

In the Trade Mission, the Indonesian trade ministry has brought a delegation of 93 business people from 43 companies from various sectors.

These business people have established trade communications with 122 Bangladesh buyers, consisting of 103 importers and 19 members of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In Business Forum, entrepreneurs from Indonesia and Bangladesh got to know each other aiming to establish transactions regarding trade or investment.

The speakers on this Business Forum are: Chairman of Bilateral Committee for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Deepak Samtani; President of FBCCI, Mr. Md. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin; Executive Member (Additional Secretary) of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Mr. Ajit Kumar Paul, FCA; Head of National Interest Account Department of Indonesia Eximbank, Ms. NillaMeiditha; Gas Sourcing Manager, PT Pertamina, Mr. Imam MulAkhyar; Vice President Director of PT Adaro Energy; and the Chairman of Indonesian Palm Oil Association, Mr. JokoSupriyono, , and the chairman of Board of Trustees of Palm Oil Plantation Fund, Mr. Rusman.
