The government has revised the renewal fees for insurance business registration, introducing a phased increase linked to insurers' gross premium income, according to a gazette notification.
The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance issued the notification on February 4, amending the Insurance Business Registration Fee Rules, 2012 under the authority granted by Sections 146, 9(4) and 11(2) of the Insurance Act, 2010.
As per the revised framework, insurance companies will be required to pay Tk 2.50 per thousand of gross premium as renewal fees for the period from 2026 to 2028.
The fee will increase to Tk 4.00 per thousand for 2029-2031 and further rise to Tk 5.00 per thousand from 2032 onwards.
The amendment replaces sub-rule (2) of Rule 3 of the existing regulations and introduces a gradual implementation timeline to allow insurers time to adjust to the new fee structure.
Officials said the revision is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and modernise the insurance sector in line with broader reform initiatives.
The gazette notification was issued by order of the President and signed by Ifthekharul Karim, deputy secretary to the government.
