Bogura Zone of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC organised and Agent Banking Business Development Conference and Workshop on Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing on Monday.
The programme was held at the Rural Development Academy in Sherpur, Bogura, according to a press release.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Masud Rahman, chairman of the Risk Management Committee of the bank, was present at the programme as the chief guest, with Mohammed Monirul Moula, managing director of the bank, in the chair.
Md. Abdul Jalil, independent director; Md. Altaf Hossain, additional managing director; K. M. MunirulAlam Al-Mamoon, deputy managing director; and A. K. M. Mahbub Morshed, senior executive vice president and head of Development Wing of the bank, addressed as special guests.
Shahidullah Majumder, head of Bogura Zone, delivered the welcome speech and Abul Laise Mohd. Khaled, head of Agent Banking Division, gave introductory greetings.
Heads of branches and proprietors of the agent banking outlets under Bogura Zone attended the conference.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Masud Rahman said in his speech as chief guest that Islami Bank has made a remarkable contribution in the development of and rendering services to marginal people of the country. “Obstacles to the development of the bank have been removed, and the bank will play its role more smoothly in the coming days. The bank's inclusionary services will be further expanded. He called on agent owners to follow proper rules and regulations and provide knowledgeable services.”
In the presidential speech, Mohammed Monirul Moula said that Islami Bank is the bank of the masses of the country. Islami Bank is conducting various activities, including agent banking, for the financial inclusion and development of marginalized people. Like mainstream banking, Islami Bank's agent banking is also at the top of the country's agent banking industry in various business indicators.Investment activities through agent banking will be diversified further.
It was disclosed at the conference that Islami Bank is currently providing banking services in remote areas through 2,783 agent outlets in 473 upazilas of the country.
The number of agent banking customers of Islami Bank is more than 5 million. In 2024 alone, Islami Bank's agent banking collected Tk 22.77 billion as new deposits and Tk 170.00 billion in remittances.
