A new chapter in Bangladesh-Japan collaboration is unfolding in the country's fast-growing ICT sector.

Experts at a seminar in Dhaka on Sunday said sustained partnership between the two nations will be key to developing a new generation of highly skilled ICT professionals capable of leading complex, large-scale software projects at home and abroad.

They highlighted that the Bangladesh Top Software Engineer (B-TopSE) initiative would play a transformative role in producing "Super Architects", elite software engineers equipped to design and manage advanced digital systems, thereby boosting Bangladesh's global competitiveness in the digital economy.

The remarks came at the B-TopSE Seminar, jointly organised by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) at the BCC Auditorium, ICT Tower, Agargaon, under the "Project for ICT Engineers Development for the Promotion of the ICT Industry and New Innovations (JICA-BCC-BASIS TCP)."

The seminar also marked the visit of three distinguished academicians from Japan's National Institute of Informatics (NII) - Dr HONIDEN Shinichi, Professor and Founder of the Japanese TopSE programme; Dr TEI Kenji, Associate Professor, Institute of Science, Tokyo; and Dr DOI Takuo, Specially-appointed Associate Professor, NII.

Their participation symbolised a new milestone in academic-industrial collaboration between the two countries.

Modelled after Japan's renowned TopSE programme, B-TopSE seeks to cultivate elite software professionals equipped with advanced, industry-focused engineering capabilities.

The initiative aims to bridge the talent gap in high-end system architecture and strengthen the backbone of Bangladesh's rapidly expanding ICT sector.

During the event, Mr SHOJI Akihiro, JICA Expert and Chief Advisor of the JICA-BCC-BASIS TCP, introduced the objectives and structure of the B-TopSE programme.

Keynote speeches delivered by Dr HONIDEN, Dr TEI, and Dr DOI highlighted global trends in software engineering education and the pivotal role that B-TopSE graduates are expected to play in digital innovation.

Special guests included Mr ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office; Mr TAKAHASHI Naoki, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan; and Mr Shish Haider Chowdhury, ndc, Secretary of the ICT Division, who attended as Chief Guest.

They all underscored the need for deeper capacity-building cooperation and continuous knowledge transfer between Japan and Bangladesh to upgrade mid- to high-level ICT talent.

The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Mr Md Golam Sarwar, Director of BD-ITEC at BCC and Project Director of the JICA-BCC-BASIS TCP.

The project continues its efforts to create a pipeline of advanced ICT engineers capable of driving innovation and contributing to Bangladesh's sustainable digital growth.
