The domestic bicycle market has significant growth potential, but progress has stalled due to the absence of dedicated cycling lanes and adequate open spaces, said RFL Group Managing Director RN Paul on Wednesday.
This stagnation has contributed to rising health concerns among the population, he said at the month-long Bishbayu awareness campaign launched at the PRAN-RFL Centre in the capital.
RFL's Duranta Bicycle launched the campaign to emphasise the use of eco-friendly vehicles to create a pollution-free environment.
"In order to increase public awareness to prevent air pollution and encourage citizens to use bicycles in their daily lives, we launched the campaign," Mr Paul stated.
He also said the bicycle market size is around Tk 11 billion per annum in Bangladesh and 45 per cent of the demand is met by locally-manufactured products.
The company exports bicycles to more than 15 countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic, Sweden, and Denmark. It exports 18,000 bicycles a month on average, according to its data.
