Forum wins BGMEA election

Mahmud Hasan Khan-led Forum won with highest 31 posts— 25 at Dhaka and six at Chattogram— at the biennial elections the apparel apex body, BGMEA, for the term of 2025-27.

Out of 26 posts at Dhaka, Sammilita Parishad won only in one and three in Chattogram out of nine, according to preliminary result of the elections.

Mr Khan is the managing director of Rising Group and panel leader of Forum.

The biennial elections of the apparel apex body-- BGMEA—ended on Saturday at 5.0 pm with casting about 89 per cent votes to elect the next board of directors for the term of 2025-27.

Some 88.21 per cent or 1377 votes were cast at Dhaka, while 82.82 or 254 voters cast their votes in Chattogram out of total 1835 votes.

The biennial elections of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) started at 8.0 am at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka and Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram simultaneously and ended at 5.0 pm.

A total of 76 candidates from three panels-- Sammilita Parishad, Forum and Oikko Parishad-- contested for the 35 posts of the board of directors of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Both Sammilita Parishad and Forum panels announced their full slates, each comprising of 35 candidates while Oikko Parishad contested with six candidates.

Chaity Group managing director and chief executive officer Md Abul Kalam led Sammilita Parishad.

Romo Group chairman Mohammad Mohsin was the panel leader of Oikko Parishad and none of the panel won.
