The Forum panel led by Rising Group Managing Director Mahmud Hasan Khan won the biennial elections of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for 2025-2027 term securing 31 out of 35 director posts.
The panel bagged 25 posts out of 26 in Dhaka and 6 out of 9 in Chattogram, according to the election results.
On the other hand, Sammilita Parishad led by Chaity Group Managing Director Md Abul Kalam secured four director posts-one in Dhaka and three in Chattogram while Oikko Parishad panel led by Romo Group Chairman Mohammad Mohsin failed to win any seats.
The elections took place simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram on Saturday with 76 candidates contesting from the three panels-Forum, Sammilita Parishad and Oikya Parishad.
According to election officials, voter turnout was robust as 1,631 out of 1,864 eligible members cast their ballots. A total of 1,377 votes out of 1,561 were cast in Dhaka reflecting an 88.21 per cent turnout while Chattogram recorded 254 votes out of 303, meaning a 83.83 per cent participation rate.
Forum panel leader Mr Khan received the highest number of 1,149 votes, while Selim Rahman got the highest number of 1,058 votes in Chattogram. The newly-elected Board of Directors will assume charges on June 16.
The polls were conducted from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm uninterruptedly at the Radisson Blu Water Garden in Dhaka and Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram. While the preliminary results were declared late Saturday, the final official results are scheduled to be published on June 4.
The election for the office-bearers, including the posts of president and vice-president, is scheduled to take place on June 14, whereas the results will be announced on June 16.
The 25 directors elected from Dhaka are: Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Mijanur Rahman, Faisal Samad, Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Inamul Haque Khan, Hasib Uddin, Vidiya Amrit Khan, Md Rezwan Selim, Shahed Udduza Chowdhury, Nafis Ud Doula, Mohammed Abdus Salam, Sumaiya Islam, Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Fahima Akhter, Sheikh Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz, Majumdar Arifur Rahman, Kazi Mizanur Rahman, ABM Shamsuddin, Joardar Mohammad Hosne Quamar Alam, Asef Kamal Pasha, Rashid Ahmed Hossaini, Rumana Rashid, Mohammad Sohel and Samiha Azim.
The remaining six directors from the Chattogram region are: Selim Rahman, M Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Sakeef Ahmed Salam, Md Shaif Ullah, Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury and Enamul Aziz Chowdhury. On the other hand, four elected directors from Sammilita Parishad are Faruque Hassan from Dhaka and Syed Mohammad Tanvir, SM Abu Tayyab as well as Rakibul Alam Chowdhury from Chattogram.
