Adoption of advanced technological knowhow is crucial for production in major sectors like garments, leather, footwear, plastics, and light engineering, as it can strengthen Bangladesh's position in the global market, speakers said on Thursday.
They also called for better information resources for ensuring greater interactions between buyers and sellers and upgrading workers' technical skills to help compete with the global market.
Experts and industry insiders made the observations at an official launching ceremony of the 'Market Intelligence Platform' (MIP) at a city hotel, LightCastle Partners said in a press statement.
Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project under the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the World Bank (WB) developed the MIP -- a website styled https://exportbangladesh.org, aiming to help businesses access market information, connect them with international partners and explore new export markets.
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman inaugurated the platform as the Chief Guest.
Additional Commerce Secretary Abdur Rahim Khan and Project Director of EC4J presented an overview of the EC4J initiative and the MIP platform at the programme.
