The government is expected to meet with the stakeholders today (Thursday) to devise necessary strategies, including reviewing the prices and management of rawhides of sacrificial animals during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, said officials.

Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh is likely to preside over the meeting, which will be held at the Ministry of Commerce. Senior officials of the commerce ministry will also be present at the event.

Representatives from different state agencies, including the cabinet division, home, fisheries and livestock, industries and religion ministry, traders and their associations, and stakeholders of the local leather sector, are supposed to attend the meeting.

The meeting will discuss various topics, including the management, prices, and transportation of rawhides and skins of sacrificial animals during the festival, an additional secretary of the commerce ministry told the FE.

"We're considering fixing fair rawhide prices for every Eid-ul-Azha to satisfy both owners of sacrificial animals and traders," he added.

During the last Eid-ul-Azha in 2022, the government increased the price of rawhide of sacrificial cows by Tk 7.0 per square foot (salt-applied) across the country compared to the prices in 2021.

The price of rawhide of sacrificial cows was fixed at Tk 47-52 per square foot (salt-applied) in the capital city and Tk 40-44 outside Dhaka during the last Eid festival.

Besides, the price of goat hide had been set at Tk 18-20 per square foot, while the price of Baqri hide had been set at Tk 12-14 per square foot for the sacrificial animals nationwide.
