Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Meghna Bank PLC Kazi Ahsan Khalil has resigned from his position.

He submitted his resignation letter on Sunday, with a copy forwarded to the central bank, a senior official of the fourth-generation private commercial bank told The Financial Express.

Mr Khalil said he felt uncomfortable with the observations and opinions expressed by the bank's newly reconstituted board during its meeting on Thursday.

"The board also suddenly decided to send me on leave without giving any reasons," he said, without elaborating further. Mr Khalil joined Meghna Bank in April last year on a three-year contract.

Over his 37-year banking career, he has worked at eight banks, including Prime Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, NRB Commercial Bank, Madhumati Bank, and Premier Bank.

Before joining Meghna Bank, he served as deputy managing director and chief business officer at NRB Bank.

In March this year, the central bank dissolved Meghna Bank's board and appointed new shareholder and independent directors, including two former Bangladesh Bank officials.
