Mongla Port, the second largest seaport of the country, can reduce the container handling time of Chittagong Port to an international standard.
Container unloading at the Chittagong Port is taking 5 to 6 days, which is 1 or 2 days are global standard, says BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan.
He said, “Often, we send goods by air to keep the commitment with the buyer, which is four times higher cost than seaway.”
The BGMEA leader said that Chittagong port needs to come up to international standards.
He made the remark at a roundtable titled “Challenges, Opportunities, and Way Forward in Shipping & Logistics Landscape” on Sunday.
The Financial Express organised the discussion at Lakeshore Heights hotel in the capital.
Mohammad Yousuf, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, was present at the event as the chief guest, while Dr. Ahmed Ullah, Director General, Chief Adviser’s Office, served as the special guest.
Shamsul Huq Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express, chaired the function.
Md. Mamun Habib, Professor, Independent University, Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address, while the session was moderated by Shiabur Rahman Shihab of The Financial Express.
