The MRT-6 is likely to add two more stoppages at Mirpur and Uttara this month, making a total of five out of nine stations between Agargaon and Uttara operational.

The date of inauguration is yet to be confirmed, sources said.

The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has been working on opening the Mirpur 10 and Uttara Centre stations of the Mass Rapid Transit Line 6 (MRT-6).

"The Mirpur 10 stoppage will certainly be opened in the 3rd week of this month if not Uttara Centre," said an official, preferring not to be named, adding that the schedule would be confirmed as soon as the necessary manpower gets ready.

Sources said the DMTCL has so far trained more than 270 people in two batches but the stations still lack necessary manpower.

The MRT 6 has been operating between Uttara and Agargaon at a limited scale without having any stoppage since December 29. Later it added Pallabi station on January 25.

However, the DMTCL Managing Director MAN Siddique in a press conference last month said the company has been working to open all the nine stations by March 26 on the occasion of Independence Day.

However, sources said that it would be challenging to meet the March deadline due to lack of trained manpower.

Due to lack of adequate staff, the state-owned company would not also consider extending the time of operation soon from the existing four hours, they added.
