Mukhter Hossain appointed chairman of Uttara Finance & Investments

Mr. Md. Mukhter Hossain was appointed as an Independent Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uttara Finance & Investments Limited (UFIL) by Bangladesh Bank on January 27, 2026.

Mr. Hossain possesses a proven record as a strategic leader and decision-maker with deep knowledge across critical banking functions. His distinguished career spans approximately 39 years in the banking and finance sector, progressing from branch-level management to the highest executive roles, including Managing Director & CEO. This journey encompasses leadership in both conventional and Islamic banking, with significant contributions to Strategic Planning & Execution, Corporate Governance, Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management, and Asset Liability Management. Notably, he also served as Advisor to NRB Bank, providing expert guidance on operational excellence and strategic initiatives.

A graduate with a B.A. (Honours) and Master's in History from the University of Dhaka, Mr. Hossain began his career as a Probationary Officer at National Bank Limited in 1984. Over the years, he held diverse roles across multiple banks, gaining hands-on experience in varied operational areas.

He has undergone extensive training both domestically and internationally, including International Training on Trade Finance (Singapore), International Banking (Frankfurt, Germany), Correspondent Banking (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and Specialized Training on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorist Financing (Bangkok, Thailand). He represented Bangladesh as a delegate at the APG Money Laundering Typology Summit in Busan, South Korea (2017).

Mr. Hossain has traveled extensively to the UK, Germany, Austria, France, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Canada, Australia, China, and Sri Lanka for business and personal purposes.
