Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nagad Ltd, Md Shafayet Alam, has no right to remain in his position, central bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur said on Sunday.
"He should be behind bars," the governor told newsmen after a meeting on the stalemate over the Nagad's administration held at the Ministry of Finance at Bangladesh Secretariat.
The meeting chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed was attended, among others, by chief adviser's special assistant Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, and Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman.
The governor said the CEO cannot continue his role. "He has certainly committed forgery … he is guilty."
When asked why the central bank lawyer was absent from the hearing of the case, Mr Mansur said the central bank was not informed about it. He said a case on creation of e-money by the Nagad's administration is underway. "We don't understand how he can still remain as CEO.
Sources at the meeting said the government has decided to form an independent board to oversee the operation of Nagad.
