The government appointed Nahid Afroz as the administrator of Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), a trade organisation under the Ministry of Commerce, so that she can hold an election to form a committee for the trade body.
The administrator has been given an assignment to conduct an election within 120 days and hand over responsibility to the elected committee or the board of directors, according to a ministry order issued in this connection on Wednesday.
The appointment has been given as per Section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022.
The organisation was not being run properly and had been failing to serve the interest of the country's information and communication technologies trade sector due to the resignation of board directors after the recent collapse of Sheikh Hasina regime, a source said.
