National committee formed to review power-energy special Act

The government has formed a National Committee to review contracts signed under the Quick Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provisions) Act, 2010 (Amendment 2021).

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued a notification in this regard on Thursday..

According to the notification, Former Justice of the High Court Division Moinul Islam Chowdhury will lead the committee, while other members are Professor of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of BUET Abdul Haseeb Chowdhury, Fellow Chartered Accountant and Former CEO of KPMG Bangladesh Ali Ashfaq, Economist and former lead economist of World Bank Dr Zahid Hossain and Professor of Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, University of London Moshtaq Hossain Khan.

It said the committee members can collect information and data and examine necessary documents from any source.

The notification also said that the committee can call any concern person or organization for hearing, according to a BSS report.

It said they can examine contracts signed under the Quick Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provisions) Act, 2010 (Amendment 2021) for checking the government's interest.

The committee will recommend for the next course of activities after examine of all those activities.

The ministry will provide secretarial and ancillary support to the committee based on the audit and make recommendations for further action.
