The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has exempted value-added tax (VAT) on metro rail ticket sales till December 31, 2025.
The information was disclosed in a letter, signed by Md. Badruzzaman Munshi, second secretary of the VAT policy wing of NBR, on Monday.
As metro rail stands as the most modern and popular public transport in Bangladesh, playing a vital role in reducing traffic congestion and saving working hours, the necessity of making travel costs more affordable has been emphasized to increase its popularity, according to the letter.
In this context, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced an exemption of VAT on the fast, safe, time-efficient, environmentally friendly, and technologically advanced metro rail services, the letter stated.
This directive will come into immediate effect and will remain valid until December 31, 2025, it added.
