NBR extends deadline for tax returns until Dec 31

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for individual taxpayers to submit their income-tax returns until December 31, pushing back the original deadline of November 30.

Additionally, the NBR has issued another order today (Sunday) stating that if any taxpayer is unable to submit their income tax return online due to registration issues with the e-return system, they can apply to the relevant Deputy Commissioner of Taxes by December 15 with specific justification.

The apex authority for tax administration has made online income tax return filing mandatory for all individual taxpayers this year, except for senior taxpayers aged 65 years or above, physically disabled or specially-abled taxpayers, Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, legal representatives filing returns on behalf of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh.

Although several categories of taxpayers have been exempted from the obligation to file returns online for the 2025-26 fiscal year, they can voluntarily submit e-returns online if they wish.

Authorized representatives can also file e-returns online on behalf of taxpayers this year.
