NBR to impose tax on social media advertisements

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) decided to impose tax on the Bangladeshi organisations which are giving advertisement on the social media platforms.

NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan came up with the announcement on Monday at a pre-budget meeting with Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) in NBR premise.

As facebook, youtube and other social media networks do not have any permanent establishment in Bangladesh, NBR cannot impose tax on those.

But instead it would slap tax on the advertisement providing companies, he said.
