Metro Rail passengers will have to count a 15 per cent Vat on ticket fares starting on July 1 this year, with the Vat exemption ending June 30 this year.

In a letter to the MRT authority on Thursday, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) expressed its inability to allow any further Vat exemption on MRT tickets.

The NBR has offered the Vat exemption to MRT passengers since December 28, 2022.

Earlier, Dhaka Mass Rapid Trasit Company had sought an extension of the current Vat exemption tenure from the NBR.
