Government employees will be entitled to receive a maximum of Tk 7.5 million and a minimum of Tk 3.0 million in home loans according to their national pay-scale grade.
An inter-ministerial meeting, chaired by finance secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, finalised a draft policy in this regard on Thursday.
The loan will carry a 10 per cent interest rate and is repayable in 20 years. A borrower will have to pay 5.0 per cent interest while the government will provide the remaining 5.0 per cent on behalf of the borrower.
After the meeting held at the secretariat, Mr Chowdhury told newsmen that the draft guidelines were finalised on Thursday and will be sent to finance minister AMA Muhith soon for his approval.
Latter, it will be placed before the cabinet for final approval, he said.
Under the present policy guideline, a public sector employee gets only Tk 120,000 in home loans.
The new loan facility will be effective from next fiscal year.
