NRBC Bank arranged a workshop on IFRS-9

NRBC Bank arranged a workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS-9) on Tuesday at their Human Resource and Training Development Centre (HRTDC), according to a press release.

Dr. Md Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director & CEO, was the chief guest at the workshop. Raditha Alahakoon, Partner, KPMG- Sri Lanka, has given a presentation on the topic of steps towards implementing ‘IFRS 9 - Financial Instruments’, more specifically, the Expected Credit Loss (ECL) based loan classification and provisioning, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country’s banking industry, as per the guidelines of Bangladesh Bank.

Dr. Md Touhidul Alam Khan said, “This implementation marks a structural shift in how banks in Bangladesh will measure and manage credit risk, moving from prudential rule-based frameworks toward globally aligned forward-looking standards. This will be the first full adoption of expected credit loss (ECL) models as guided by the central bank.”

Mr. Nazib Ullah, Associate Director, KPMG- Bangladesh, was the special guest, and all relevant divisional heads of the bank were the participants in the workshop.
