NRBC Bank arranges Open Credit Disbursement Program among marginalized and low-Income people

NRBC Bank has organized an open loan disbursement program for marginalized, landless farmers, and low-income professionals from various branches and sub-branches in Bhola.

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, at a hotel in Bhola, the event was held under Bangladesh Bank’s refinancing scheme aimed at enhancing financial inclusion for grassroots communities, according to a media release. 

Mr. Rup Ratan Pine, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the loan cheques to selected beneficiaries, including 21 customers of NRBC Bank.

The program was presided over by Dr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director and CEO of NRBC Bank.

Special guest Md. Firoz Ahmed, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank; Sk. Ahsanul Haque, Head of SME and Agricultural Finance Division of NRBC Bank; Md. Romjan Ali Bhuiyan, Head of the Microcredit Department; and Md. Abdul Halim, Head of Barishal-Khulna Zone. Officials from various banks were also present at the event.

NRBC Bank organized this program as lead the bank in association with 24 local branches of commercial banks.

Under Bangladesh Bank’s Tk 750 crore refinancing fund, created for marginal farmers, landless people, low-income professionals, school banking account holders, and small entrepreneurs with accounts of Tk 10/50/100, NRBC Bank has disbursed Tk 3.95 crore in loans to 137 customers in Bhola district alone.

Across the country, NRBC Bank has distributed Tk 150 crore from this fund. Beneficiaries can avail loans ranging from Tk 50,000 to Tk 5 lakh at a concessional interest rate of 7 percent.

Speaking at the event, Rup Ratan Pine said that Bangladesh Bank’s financial inclusion initiative aims to ensure that every citizen has at least one bank account.

He emphasized that through entrepreneurship and self-employment, people can contribute to national economic growth.

To support this goal, Bangladesh Bank has established a refinancing fund, enabling commercial banks to provide low-interest loans to marginalized communities.

He added that the central bank, in collaboration with commercial banks, will continue to promote financial inclusion and improve the living standards of disadvantaged people.

Dr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, MD and CEO of NRBC Bank, stated that financial upliftment of underprivileged people is essential for achieving sustainable development.

He expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Bank for its leadership in bringing every individual into the mainstream economy and reaffirmed NRBC Bank’s commitment to implementing this vision, the release adds.
