Micro Loans have been distributed among the low-income marginal people of the Barguna district.
In a meeting, these loans under the Refinance Scheme Fund of Bangladesh Bank were handed over to 69 customers who are also 10 taka account holders, according to a media release.
The event was organized by NRBC Bank PlC Soheli Afrin, Additional Director of the Financial Inclusion Department of Bangladesh Bank was the chief guest of the program at RDF Auditorium, Barguna on 21 November 2024.
NRBC Bank's Islamic Banking Division and Barishal-Khulna Zone Head SEVP AKM Rabiul Islam presided over the event among others Bangladesh Bank Joint Director Debashish Roy, Head of Micro Finance Division Md. Ramzan Ali Bhuiyan, Deputy General Manager of Sonali Bank Salim Haider, Barishal Branch Manager Abdul Halim, Barguna Branch Manager Md. Deluar Hossain, Barishal-Pirojpur Area Incharge Syed Zahidur Rahman were present in the program.
18 commercial banks distribute these loans to their customers in the disbursement program.
Out of this, a maximum of 23 customers of NRBC Bank were given loans by cheque.
Besides, cheques were handed over to 7 customers of Sonali Bank, 5 customers each of Agrani, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, and Islami Bank, and 2 customers each of UCB, Uttara, Rupali, Janata, Al Arafah, Pubali, and BRAC Bank.
Customers are disbursed a loan of a minimum of 50,000 taka and a maximum of 5 lakh.
In the event, Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Soheli Afrin said that the country's low-income people have opened up the opportunity to receive banking services by allowing them to open an account with a small amount of money.
"People in remote areas are getting loan facilities with very simple information. No collateral is required, no additional documents are required. The economy is getting the benefits. We want today's small entrepreneurs to become big entrepreneurs someday", she said.
Debashish Roy, Joint Director of Bangladesh Bank, said that the main objective of Bangladesh Bank is to solve customer's problems.
"We want to ensure maximum use of money while protecting the interest of the customer. Bangladesh Bank is implementing financial inclusion programs for the purpose of ensuring that not a single person in the country is left out of banking services."
AKM Rabiul Islam of NRBC Bank said that NRBC Bank is working for the development of the mass people of the country.
"Loans are being distributed to marginal farmers, fishermen, blacksmiths, potters, and micro-entrepreneurs of remote villages by opening accounts for just 10 TK. NRBC Bank has distributed Tk 93 crore to 3 thousand entrepreneurs from the fund that Bangladesh Bank has formed for these marginalized people. With the guidance and cooperation of Bangladesh Bank, NRBC Bank will work to improve the fortunes of marginalized people", he said.
