Number of registered auto-rickshaws nearly triples in past decade

The number of registered auto-rickshaws in the country nearly tripled over the past decade, thanks to people’s growing purchasing power as well as the soaring economy, according to official data.

As many as 182,725 auto-rickshaws were registered during the period between January 2011 and June 2020 while the number was 126,763 until 2010, according to statistics from Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

The BRTA data also showed that, during the period under review, a total of 13,935 auto-rickshaws were registered in Dhaka alone whereas the number of registered auto-rickshaws in the capital city stood at 7,664 until 2010.

Besides, a total of 10,217 auto-rickshaws were registered across the country from January to June this year, it added.
